Dream Death: Delaying the Dream
God told Abram to leave Ur and live in Canaan, but Abram didn’t listen all the way. He took along his father, Terah, whose name meant “delay” and he lived in Haran, a place with a name meaning “barren.”
PARTIAL OBEDIENCE LEADS TO DELAY
I love this part of the story. To be honest, it’s right at the beginning of the promise, but it holds so much truth I can barely contain myself.
Partial obedience leads to a delayed promise. It’s important we don’t believe we have obeyed when we’ve only listened halfway. Full obedience is Godly obedience. It’s the only way not to delay the promise. If God said it, then there must be a reason for it. Trust him!
PARTIAL OBEDIENCE LEADS TO BARRENNESS
Abram took his family and lived in a place with a name meaning ‘barren.’ When we don’t obey God all the way we end up living a barren life. We end up living a dull life. We may think it’s not a big deal, but God is trying to lead us to a land flowing with milk and honey. When we wait to obey God, we aren’t in a place to bear fruit and live. We are just buying time.
GO BACK TO WHAT GOD SAID
What do we do when we find ourselves in a place of partial obedience? We have to go back to the last thing God told us to do. It may seem anticlimactic, but it’s the only sure thing to do.
God has so much in store for you. Don’t let your dream chasing become delayed. Don’t let it throw you when it looks like someone is taking the best part of your Promised Land. Don’t buy into fear and unbelief. Go back, and start again. Keep going! The best is yet to come.
